Description
Sugar maples have beautiful red fall color. They are more site-demanding than other maples, preferring slightly acid, well-drained soils. Avoid planting in open, windy areas to maintain the appearance of the tree. Slow to moderate growth rate. Green Mountain is an older cultivar, a sugar maple crossed with black maple, giving it heat and drought tolerance. Thick, leathery leaves resist tattering from the wind and turn yellow in the fall.
